Castro Valley Bulldogs Take 3rd in LA

The weekend of March 30th, the NJB-Castro Valley Bulldogs and their families headed to Los Angeles for the NJB (National Junior Basketball) All Star Championships. This 7th grade girls team consisted of 11 team members, all who were picked as all stars by their peers. The girls were pooled from the three Division 1 girls teams from Castro Valley. Taylor Lyons, Mia Cardenas, Nicole Causapin, Katie Goodman, Christina Gomez, Chyna Gonzales, Tiffany Javier, Christina Jones, Brittany Lambert, Emily Rusca, and Jessicah Schoenfeld made up the "Bulldogs" that took third place in the championship tournament.

Coach Larry Jones and Coach Larry Goodman were extremely proud of the way their team played. "They never gave up", stated Coach Jones when presenting awards to each team member at the team party last Thursday. The Bulldogs only loss was by 4 points to a team they beat two weeks ago in a local tournament. The opening ceremonies were held at University of California at Long Beach at "The Pyramid" gymnasium. 180 teams were there representing several states, including California, Arizona, Hawaii and Guam. 22 gym facilities all over the Los Angeles area were utilized to accomodate the championship tournament. Our Sectional Director, Kookie Costa, was present at just about every game played by the kids from her area. The kids had a great time!
