Hayward Still Undefeated with 65-0 Win over Tennyson

Farmers On Their Way to League Showdown

Continuing their winning streak with a 65-0 win over the Tennyson Lancers, Hayward currently is undefeated.

Senior John Russell said, "It feels good to be 5-0 and we have worked very hard to get there, but we are no where near our bigger goals."

Hayward's leading man, Sevelan Harper, racked up to 45 rushing yards in the first quarter. Along with Harper were DeAvalon Madison with 6 yards and Ferrell LeBlanc with 7 yards rushing. Also contributing in the push toward points was Russell with 7 yards rushing off the line of scrimmage.

Leading the defense with tackles in the first quarter was Brandon Anderson and Forest Spiegel with four tackles each. Also, Kyle Souza contributed with 2 tackles. Despite the rushing efforts of the players, both teams were left scoreless at the end of the quarter.

Scoring Hayward's first touchdown of the game, Tony Sapiga rushed for 14 yards for the score. Once again showing himself on the field, Harper scored Hayward's second and third touchdowns of the game, the first touchdown was a rush for 35 yards, and then another for 5 yards. Antonio Pennyman came in at the end of the quarter to score the Farmers' fourth and final touchdown of the quarter rushing for 45 yards.

Led by Joshua Pulu the defense worked hard with 15 tackles in the second quarter, 7 by Pulu. Also seen under the piles was Philip Ford, Augustine Morales, and Brandon Anderson with a quarterback sac. Spiegel had 5 tackles at the end of the first half and the score 28-0, Farmers.

Opening the second half with a 13 yard scoring rush by quarterback Russell, the Farmers upped the score to 36-0 with a two point conversion by Sapiga. Scoring his next two touchdowns for the team, Harper rushed for 25 and 5 yards. Leading runners in the quater were Sapiga, Russell, and LeBlanc.

For the defense in the third quarter Souza lead the line with 4 tackles, one for a quarterback sac. Contributing along with Souza was John Booker and Steve McNeil with 2 tackles each. Moving into the fourth quarter with a 51-0 score, Dominic Florence opened with an 18 yard touchdown followed by a 1 point kick by kicker Parshan Rayatkah.

Exploding in the fourth quarter was LeBlanc with 6 rushes for a total of 72 rushing yards, one of which was for Hayward's final touchdown, ending the game 65-0.

Hayward's next obstacle will be Bishop O'Dowd of Oakland on Friday, October 18, for Hayward's homecoming game.
