The EastBaySports Photojournalism Contest

Round One Winners!

EastBaySports.Com is proud to announce the winners of our first round in the Celebrate Sports in the East Bay photojournalism contest.

Three judges, representing the EastBaySports.Com staff, advisory board, and contributing writers  were asked to judge the entries across three parameters – subject, style, technical, and supporting photo, or photos.

In the end, it was Will Stevens and Ryan Kelly from California High School in San Ramon who took first, with their in depth story,  ‘Athletic Uprades Linked to Growth.”

Second place went to Brian Emanuele and Chris Steele from Canyon Middle School in Castro Valley, for their entry titled,  “Canyon vs Creekside Showdown”,

Third place went to Katie Sowell from San Leandro High School, for her story, ‘San Leandro High's "Dumb Jocks"’.

A special honorable mention award goes to Tharey Sen, for her story,  “Under Exposure, The Story of Soccer at Fremont High”.

Each winner receives a $50 gift certificate from EastBaySports.Com, in addition to their choice of software from Ulead Systems.  In addition, Will and Ryan receive a camera for their school  (*), and are eligible for a second camera for the school in a grand prize judging.

Stay tuned, as our next round of entries comes entirely from Miramonte High School and Cheryl Davis’
Digital photography class.  With over thirty students entering, we can guarantee some outstanding work.
With this round, we will include a “popular vote” winner, so be sure to help us vote.  Winner in the popular vote category will receive an additional $25 gift certificate from EastBaySports.Com.

We will continue the contest until all eight cameras have been awarded.

(*) In the event that a winning entry is by more than one
student, then the camera is awarded to the winners' school of choice.
